For the weeks leading up to the 5th Grade Science STAAR, our intervention lessons are focusing on science topics. These are topics already covered in science class but ones that the science teachers wanted some reinforcement on.
Topic #1- Changes to Earth's Surface
We started out at the computers where each student could browse four different websites at their own pace. I gave them about 10-12 minutes and let them go to each of the websites. The websites are linked below as well as attached in a Word Document. I pulled the Word Doc up on the student computers so all they had to do was click to get to the websites.
1. Kids Geo
2. One Geology
3. National Geographic
4. Earth and Space
They all are loaded with pictures and the fourth one even has the option to read aloud to the students.

Next, we completed an Interactive Word Wall together. I saw the idea on The Science Toolkit and made one of my own. It was a great way to discuss cause and effects as well as the meanings of each of the words.
The example pictures and the green labels from the picture above are attached here:

Once we worked through the Interactive Word Wall, we used what we just discussed to complete a foldable over the different changes to Earth's surface. I found this foldable on TPT where I bought it for $3. It was short and to the point and gave us several ideas to help remember the differences. We also colored what we wanted to stand out in our brains.
Following the foldable we completed a sort on Weathering, Erosion, and Deposition. The students read the little scenario and decided if it described weathering, erosion, or deposition. I found this sort on Spinning Scientist's TPT for free.
